Anambra Police Arrest Woman Over Alleged Sexual Abuse of Minor as Husband Reveals How He Discovered Case

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, over an alleged case of sexual abuse involving a minor in Onitsha, with her husband subsequently recounting how a video brought the matter to his attention.

The arrest followed the circulation of a disturbing video allegedly showing the sexual abuse of a child. Police operatives who responded to the case also rescued four children from the residence and recovered items considered relevant to the investigation. The children, according to the police, are aged two, three, six and nine.

The woman's husband, Ikechukwu Onyeanyusi, said he became aware of the alleged abuse after a friend showed him the video. His account was later featured in a video released by the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.

According to Onyeanyusi, he confronted his wife after seeing the footage, but she initially denied the allegation and claimed that the video had been generated using artificial intelligence. The husband said the claim prompted him to question whether the material could have been manipulated or digitally generated.

The situation escalated when police arrived at the family residence and conducted a search before taking the woman into custody. Onyeanyusi subsequently told investigators about what he had seen and the circumstances in which he obtained the video.

He further alleged that his wife later acknowledged the conduct during questioning at the police station. That account, however, remains part of the investigation and should not be treated as a judicial finding of guilt.

The police have confirmed the arrest but have not publicly established that the circulated video is authentic or that it was not manipulated using artificial intelligence. The AI claim therefore remains an issue for investigators to determine through appropriate evidence and forensic examination.

The police said the suspect remains in custody while investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other people may have been involved. Her husband is also being questioned as part of the investigation.

The rescue of the four children has placed their safety and welfare at the centre of the authorities' response. The Anambra police said the children would receive appropriate care and protection while investigations continue, with child-protection agencies expected to be involved in the process.

The case highlights the need for authorities to establish the facts through evidence rather than relying solely on material circulating online or competing accounts from those involved. This is particularly important where digital evidence is central to an allegation and where the alleged victim is a child.

For now, the woman has been arrested but has not been convicted of any offence. The investigation will have to establish the authenticity and origin of the video, determine what occurred, protect the children involved and establish whether additional offences or suspects are connected to the case.

The Anambra State Police Command has said its investigation is ongoing.
