The Bauchi State Police Command has recorded arrests in separate criminal investigations involving alleged homicide, foeticide and suspected illicit drug activity across the state.
In the latest homicide-related cases, police said a 19-year-old man, Abubakar Hudu, was arrested after a disagreement with Hassan Adamu in the Gida Dubu area of Bauchi metropolis reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation. Police said Hassan later became unconscious and was taken to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Detectives from the ‘C’ Division visited the scene and the hospital as part of the investigation. The police said the suspect was subsequently arrested and would assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the death.
In another case in Kirfi Local Government Area, police said a dispute over farmland between Haruna Bala and Audu Babangida developed into a fight during which Bala allegedly stabbed Babangida in the neck with a knife. The victim was taken to General Hospital, Kirfi, where he was confirmed dead.
Police said officers later arrested the fleeing suspect at River Kafin Iya while he was allegedly attempting to cross into Gombe State. A knife believed to have been used in the incident was also recovered, according to the command.
The command also reported the arrest of two men, Aminu Jibrin and Salihu Mohammed, in Ningi Local Government Area over allegations of criminal conspiracy and foeticide. Police said the arrests followed information provided by a human rights activist and alleged that substances were unlawfully administered to a 22-year-old woman, resulting in the termination of her pregnancy.
The three cases were ordered to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution. The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, also warned residents against jungle justice and encouraged the public to provide credible information to law-enforcement authorities.
Separately, the Bauchi Police Command has also recorded arrests connected with suspected illicit drug activity. In one recent operation, officers arrested a 23-year-old man, Aliyu Suleman, in the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi metropolis. Police said a search allegedly led to the recovery of 64 bottles containing methylene chloride and 17 pieces of rubber solution. The suspect remained in custody while investigations continued.
The separate cases highlight the range of criminal investigations currently being handled by the Bauchi Police Command. However, the arrests do not amount to convictions, and the allegations against the suspects remain subject to investigation and, where applicable, judicial determination.
Police authorities have continued to urge residents to report suspicious activities and avoid taking the law into their own hands as investigations into the various cases proceed.
