Katsina Police Arrest Three Over Grandfather’s Kidnap, Rescue Two Women

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested three men over the alleged kidnapping of a 22-year-old man’s grandfather and rescued two women abducted in a separate attack in the state.

The police said the suspects, identified as 22-year-old Sani Dikko, Kabir Sani and Salisu Bello, were arrested on September 12 during an operation by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit along Marabar Shema Village in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area.

According to the police, the suspects were arrested at about 8:23pm after operatives acted on credible intelligence during a patrol. The command said preliminary investigations indicated that Dikko allegedly conspired with the other two suspects to kidnap his grandfather, identified as Alhaji Lawal, about three weeks earlier.

The police said the victim spent 16 days in captivity before his release after a ransom of N3 million was paid. The command said all three suspects remained in custody as investigations continued into the alleged kidnapping and the possibility of a wider criminal network.

In a separate operation, police operatives rescued two women who were abducted during an attack on Sha’iskawa Fulani Village in Kankia Local Government Area.

The victims, identified as 45-year-old Assubi Rabe and 27-year-old Rabi Isyaku, were reportedly abducted at about 12:45am on September 14 by about eight armed men.

The police said the Kankia Divisional Police Officer mobilised operatives after receiving a distress call. According to the command, the security team engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bush and leaving the two victims behind.

The two women were subsequently rescued unhurt, according to the police.

The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Fage, commended the officers involved in the operations and urged residents to continue providing security agencies with credible information that could assist in preventing and investigating criminal activities.

The arrests and rescue operation form part of ongoing police efforts to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across Katsina State. The cases remain subject to further investigation, while the arrested suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court.
