The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has cleared a container truck that obstructed a major road at National-Ashade, Lagos, after the vehicle developed a mechanical fault and tilted across much of the roadway.
The incident occurred at about 11:21 p.m. on Sunday when the MACK truck, carrying two 20-foot containers, reportedly broke down while attempting to make a U-turn. The containers tilted, leaving the truck in a position that blocked about 80 per cent of the roadway.
LASEMA emergency responders were deployed to the scene after receiving information about the obstruction. The agency used its recovery equipment to remove the affected truck and reopen the road to motorists.
The operation was carried out as part of the agency's emergency response efforts to prevent prolonged obstruction and reduce the risk of further incidents on the busy road.
The latest incident highlights the traffic risks associated with breakdowns involving articulated vehicles, particularly when they occur on roads with heavy vehicular movement. Such incidents can quickly create bottlenecks and expose other road users to additional danger.
LASEMA has repeatedly advised operators of heavy-duty vehicles to ensure that their vehicles are properly maintained and roadworthy before travelling on major roads across Lagos.
The agency's response also underscores the importance of rapid emergency intervention when vehicle breakdowns or accidents obstruct major roads, as clearing such obstructions quickly can help restore normal traffic movement and reduce secondary congestion.
