The 2026/27 Premier League season has reached its first international break with five matches completed, leaving Manchester City at the top of the table while several established clubs face contrasting starts to the campaign.
Manchester City have made the strongest start, winning all five of their league matches to collect 15 points. Their latest victory was a 5–3 win over Sunderland, a result that preserved their perfect record and gave them a three-point advantage over Arsenal.
Arsenal occupy second place on 12 points after winning four of their opening five matches. Their perfect start ended on Saturday when Brighton defeated them 3–0, handing the defending champions their first league defeat of the campaign.
Brighton have moved into third position after an impressive opening five matches. They have collected 10 points and have scored 16 goals, the highest total in the division at this stage. Their victory over Arsenal was their third win of the season.
Brentford sit fourth with nine points, while Leeds United, Liverpool and Everton also have nine points after five matches. Liverpool remain unbeaten following their 1–0 victory away to Bournemouth, with Alexander Isak scoring the decisive goal.
Hull City and Newcastle United are next on the table with eight points each, while Chelsea have seven points from their opening five matches.
Ipswich Town have six points, followed by Manchester United and Nottingham Forest on five points each. United drew 1–1 with Fulham on Sunday after Matheus Cunha scored a late equaliser to rescue a point.
Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa each have four points. Villa recorded their first league victory of the season on Saturday by beating Tottenham Hotspur 3–2 in north London.
Bournemouth have three points, while Coventry City also have three after recording their first Premier League victory since returning to the top flight. Fulham and Tottenham occupy the bottom two places with two points each.
Tottenham's difficult start continued with the defeat to Aston Villa. Spurs remain without a league victory after five matches and have two points, making it their worst start to a Premier League season after five games according to Opta data reported by The Guardian.
The early table provides only a snapshot of the season, with 33 league matches still to be played by each club. The international break now gives teams an opportunity to assess their opening performances before the Premier League resumes.
With Manchester City maintaining a perfect record, Arsenal looking to recover from their heavy defeat and a group of clubs separated by only a few points, the standings remain tightly contested outside the top two.
