Ninth Woman Found Dead in Ekurhuleni as Police Intensify Investigation Into Women’s Deaths

South African police have discovered the body of a ninth woman in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg, deepening concerns over a series of women’s deaths reported across the municipality since July.

The latest body was found on Thursday morning in Dawn Park, Boksburg, after a passerby alerted police. Authorities have not yet released the woman’s identity, and investigators are still working to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

The discovery brings to nine the number of women whose bodies have been found in different parts of Ekurhuleni over the past two months. The cases have prompted a high-level investigation as police examine whether there are links between the deaths.

Police have stressed, however, that they have not established that the nine cases were carried out by the same person or group. Investigators are examining evidence from each case separately while also looking for similarities that could help determine whether the deaths are connected.

The latest discovery came as authorities increased security operations in parts of Ekurhuleni following the deaths of several women. A multidisciplinary investigative team involving detectives, intelligence officers, forensic specialists and other police units has been assembled to work on the cases.

South African police have also appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the investigation. Authorities have warned against circulating unverified reports or photographs of the victims, saying such material can increase fear and interfere with responsible reporting of the cases.

The deaths have attracted national attention because of similarities reported in some of the cases. Several of the victims were found with little or no clothing, while investigators have reported signs of violence in some cases. Police are yet to establish a common motive or determine whether a single offender, multiple offenders or unrelated perpetrators are responsible.

Authorities have offered a 400,000-rand reward for information that could assist in securing arrests in connection with the killings. The investigation is continuing across the areas where the bodies were discovered, including Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein, Tembisa, KwaThema and Dawn Park.

The latest case has added to concerns among residents and families as investigators work to identify the victim and establish what happened to her. Police say the evidence being gathered from the different scenes will be important in determining whether the cases form part of a connected pattern.

Authorities have urged anyone with information about suspicious activity or missing persons linked to the investigation to contact the police. They have also appealed to families to report missing relatives immediately rather than waiting before contacting law enforcement.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have yet to announce a conclusion linking all nine deaths to one perpetrator or group.
