Yayi Unveils Nine-Pillar Development Agenda, Promises Continuity in Ogun

The Ogun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has unveiled a nine-pillar development agenda ahead of the 2027 governorship election, promising to sustain viable projects initiated by previous administrations if elected.

Adeola unveiled the agenda, tagged “ITESIWAJU for Ogun State,” while meeting with members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council in Abeokuta. He said the framework was developed after consultations across the state and was designed to address major areas of development.

The senator, who represents Ogun West in the National Assembly and chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriation, said continuity in governance was necessary to prevent viable projects from being abandoned whenever a new administration takes office.

He cited Lagos State as an example, arguing that successive administrations since the return to democratic rule in 1999 had built on existing policies and projects in areas including infrastructure, transportation, revenue generation and urban development.

Adeola said Ogun State could achieve similar benefits if successive governments evaluated projects based on their value to residents rather than the administration that initiated them. He promised that, if elected, his government would continue viable infrastructure projects inherited from the present administration instead of abandoning them for political reasons.

The proposed ITESIWAJU agenda covers nine areas: Infrastructure; Tourism and Culture; Economic Empowerment; Security and Welfare; Inclusive Growth and Well-being; Women, Youth and Poverty Eradication; Agriculture and Food Security; Job Creation and Industrialisation; and Urbanisation and Transparency.

Adeola said the development framework had taken about three years to prepare and was based on consultations with thousands of people across Ogun State. He described it as a long-term development framework rather than simply a campaign document.

The APC candidate also called for an issue-based campaign ahead of the 2027 election, urging candidates and political parties to explain their programmes to voters. He identified youth development, women’s empowerment, industrialisation, agriculture, infrastructure, security, job creation and economic growth as areas that should form part of the campaign debate.

He urged the electorate to assess candidates based on their proposed programmes and development plans rather than personal attacks or political rhetoric.

Adeola also addressed controversy surrounding his ancestral roots, describing the issue as political manoeuvring and saying it would not distract him from his ambition to contribute to Ogun State’s development. His characterisation of the controversy was his own response to the political dispute and was not independently established as fact.

Speaking at the event, Ogun State IPAC Chairman Abayomi Sanyaolu urged governorship candidates to avoid vulgar language and personal attacks during the campaign. He called on political actors to focus on their manifestos and development programmes.

The ITESIWAJU agenda now forms part of Adeola’s campaign platform as the 2027 Ogun governorship contest develops. Its proposals remain campaign commitments and would depend on implementation, funding and other government decisions if he is elected.
