Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dissolved and reconstituted the Governing Council of Osun State University, UNIOSUN, in a move aimed at ensuring continuity and strengthening the administration of the institution.
A statement issued by the governor in Osogbo on Friday said the reconstitution was intended to prevent any administrative gap and support the continued growth of the university.
Under the new arrangement, Professor Adewale Abiodun Oladipo will remain as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. He also headed the dissolved council.
Other members of the newly constituted council are Alhaji Gbadegesin Lawal, Otunba Titi Laoye-Ponnle, Akinola Franklin Omoniyi, Chief Funminiyi Awotide, Orija Samuel Adebayo and Mrs Adewale Adetayo Bola.
Governor Adeleke charged the new council to build on the achievements recorded by UNIOSUN and provide the necessary support for the university's management.
He specifically urged the council to sustain what he described as the institution's excellent record while supporting management in delivering further innovations and improving the university's operations.
The governor said the reconstitution was also necessary to avoid gaps in the administration of the university, which has continued to expand its academic and infrastructural activities.
The new council is expected to be formally inaugurated on Monday, August 31, 2026.
The development comes shortly after Adeleke commissioned several major projects at UNIOSUN in July, including a sports complex, laboratory complex and lecture facilities. The governor has repeatedly said his administration is committed to improving infrastructure and strengthening the university's academic standing.
UNIOSUN has also expanded significantly since its establishment, with the university reporting growth from 649 students and 19 academic programmes at inception to more than 42,000 students and 108 academic programmes.
The reconstituted council will therefore assume responsibility for providing strategic oversight as the institution continues its expansion and pursues stronger academic and international recognition.
