Atiba University DVC Under Fire Over Remarks to Protesting Law Students

The Oyo State Government has empowered 80 civil servants with digital skills as part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of its workforce and improve efficiency in public service delivery.

The beneficiaries were trained under an initiative designed to equip government workers with relevant digital knowledge and practical skills needed to operate effectively in an increasingly technology-driven public sector.

The training is part of the state government's broader efforts to modernise its civil service and ensure that public servants are able to adapt to changing technologies and new approaches to governance.

Officials said the programme is expected to help participants improve their productivity, strengthen their ability to use digital tools and contribute more effectively to the delivery of government services to residents.

The initiative also reflects the growing importance of digital transformation in public administration, as governments increasingly rely on technology for communication, record management, data processing, service delivery and engagement with citizens.

Speaking on the programme, the state government emphasised the need for continuous capacity building among civil servants, particularly as technology continues to change the way government institutions operate.

The beneficiaries were encouraged to apply the knowledge gained during the training in their respective ministries, departments and agencies and to share relevant skills with other colleagues.

The government said investing in the workforce remains essential to achieving its development objectives, noting that modern infrastructure and digital platforms can only deliver meaningful results when personnel have the capacity to use them effectively.

The training also provides an opportunity for the participating civil servants to develop skills that can improve their day-to-day responsibilities and make government processes more efficient.

Digital skills are increasingly becoming essential across virtually every area of public administration. From electronic documentation and data management to online communication and digital service platforms, civil servants are expected to have a working knowledge of technology to meet the demands of modern governance.

The Oyo Government's decision to focus on capacity development therefore forms part of a wider push towards a more digitally competent and responsive public service.

The 80 beneficiaries are expected to take the lessons from the programme back to their various workplaces, where the skills can be applied to improve productivity and service delivery.

The government also urged participants to remain committed to learning and professional development, stressing that digital transformation is an ongoing process that requires workers to continuously update their knowledge.

The programme is expected to complement other efforts by the state administration to reform the civil service and build a workforce capable of supporting Oyo's development agenda.

For the beneficiaries, the training provides an opportunity to strengthen their professional capabilities while contributing to the state's efforts to create a more efficient, technology-driven public service.
