Edo State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, has urged Muslim faithful across the state to use the occasion of Eid-ul-Mawlid to promote peace, unity, compassion and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
Idahosa made the call while felicitating with Muslims in Edo State and beyond as they commemorate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He urged the faithful to reflect on the teachings and exemplary life of the Prophet, particularly his emphasis on peace, humility, tolerance, compassion and love for humanity.
The Deputy Governor said Eid-ul-Mawlid provides an important opportunity for Muslims to reflect on values that can contribute to a more peaceful and united society. He encouraged the faithful to put those values into practice in their everyday interactions with family members, neighbours, colleagues and other members of their communities.
According to Idahosa, the teachings associated with Prophet Muhammad (SAW) remain relevant to the challenges facing society today, particularly the need for tolerance, understanding and respect among people of different backgrounds.
He called on Muslims to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and work towards peaceful coexistence, stressing that peace and unity are essential to the continued development and prosperity of Edo State and Nigeria.
The Deputy Governor also encouraged Muslim faithful to extend kindness and support to less privileged members of their communities during the celebration.
He said the spirit of Eid-ul-Mawlid should go beyond festivities and provide an opportunity for people to show compassion to those in need, particularly vulnerable members of society who may require assistance and support.
Idahosa further urged Muslims across the state to use the occasion to pray for the continued peace, unity and prosperity of Edo State and Nigeria.
He said prayers for the country remained important as Nigerians continued to work towards a more peaceful and prosperous society, while also calling on citizens to contribute individually to building stronger communities.
“This sacred occasion offers us an opportunity to reflect on the exemplary life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), particularly his virtues of peace, compassion, humility, tolerance and love for humanity,” Idahosa said.
The Deputy Governor also prayed that Almighty Allah would accept the prayers of the faithful and grant wisdom to the nation's leaders at all levels.
He asked God to continue to bless Edo State with peace, progress and prosperity, while wishing Muslim faithful across the state a peaceful and fulfilling Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
His message comes as Muslims across Nigeria mark this year's Eid-ul-Mawlid, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The Federal Government had declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to allow Muslim faithful to observe the occasion.
The Federal Government had similarly urged Nigerians to reflect on values associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, including compassion, humility and service to humanity, while calling for prayers for peace and national cohesion.
With security, economic and social challenges continuing to affect communities across the country, messages from political and religious leaders during the celebration have continued to emphasise the importance of unity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
Idahosa's message therefore reinforces the call for citizens to look beyond religious and social differences and embrace values capable of strengthening relationships and promoting harmony within communities.
The Deputy Governor's office also reaffirmed his commitment to promoting an atmosphere of peace and unity in Edo State, while encouraging residents to celebrate the religious occasion responsibly and extend goodwill to others.
As Muslims mark Eid-ul-Mawlid, Idahosa urged the faithful to allow the lessons of the celebration to influence their daily lives and contribute to a more compassionate, tolerant and peaceful society.
