Four Suspected Cultists Arrested After Edo Security Operative Is Killed

 

The Edo State Police Command has arrested four suspects following the killing of a personnel of the Edo State Security Corps, ESSC, in Ewatto, Esan South-East Local Government Area of the state.

The deceased, identified as Martins Enahoro, was reportedly attacked by suspected cultists at about 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City. She said the police received a distress call concerning an attack on Enahoro by suspected members of the Aro Berger confraternity.

According to the police, some of the suspected attackers were identified as Gbozia and Gezo, although their surnames were not immediately known.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Enahoro attempted to defend himself during the confrontation and stabbed one of the attackers, identified as Gbozia.

However, the security operative also sustained multiple cut injuries during the attack.

Both Enahoro and Gbozia were rushed to God’s Will Hospital in Ewohimi, where they were pronounced dead by the doctor on duty. Their remains were subsequently deposited at the mortuary pending further investigation.

Following the incident, police arrested four suspects in connection with the attack. The command said two of those arrested had confessed to belonging to the Vikings and Aiye confraternities.

The suspects have been transferred to the Area Command Headquarters for further investigation, while police operatives continue efforts to apprehend other suspects who reportedly fled the scene.

The police said the investigation would help establish the circumstances surrounding the clash and determine the roles allegedly played by the arrested suspects.

The Edo State Police Command warned that attacks on security personnel would not be tolerated, stressing that such acts constitute serious criminal offences.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over cult-related violence in parts of Edo State and the risks faced by personnel involved in community security operations.
