A 55-year-old woman, Antine Amadu, has been granted bail by a Chief Magistrate Court in Gombe after she was arraigned over allegations of receiving a stolen gallon of Turkey cooking oil valued at ₦60,000.
Amadu, a resident of Dawaki Quarters in Gombe, appeared before Chief Magistrate Musa-Saleh Kilawa of Chief Magistrate Court No. 1 on a charge of receiving stolen property.
The prosecution alleged that Amadu received the cooking oil from Ibrahim Hassan of Aniya Quarters at about 1am on August 27, 2026. The oil was allegedly stolen from Haruna Magaji, a resident of Ajiya Quarters, Gombe.
State counsel, Hafsat Aliyu, told the court that Amadu allegedly received the property knowing or having reason to believe that it was stolen. The prosecution said the alleged offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code Law.
After the charge was read and explained to her, Amadu pleaded not guilty.
Following her plea, the magistrate considered her bail application and granted her bail. The court subsequently adjourned the case until September 14, 2026, for hearing.
The case remains at the allegation stage, and Amadu is presumed innocent unless she is found guilty by a competent court.
The proceedings will continue when the matter comes up for hearing in September, with the prosecution expected to present its evidence.
