Military Moves Plateau Security Headquarters to Mangu After Deadly Attacks

The Nigerian military has relocated the tactical headquarters of Operation Enduring Peace, formerly known as Operation Safe Haven, from Jos to Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State following a recent wave of deadly attacks in the area.

The relocation is part of a renewed military strategy aimed at strengthening security operations in Mangu and surrounding communities that have recently experienced heightened violence.

The Commander of Operation Enduring Peace and General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Williams Dangana, said the decision was taken to improve operational efficiency and enable troops to respond more quickly to security threats.

According to Dangana, establishing the headquarters in Mangu would allow the military leadership to maintain direct and real-time assessment of the security situation in the area.

He said the relocation was not simply a movement of personnel but was accompanied by additional troops, equipment and logistics approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

The development follows a series of attacks in Mangu and neighbouring areas, including the recent assault on Binper Village, where more than 25 people were reportedly killed.

The renewed violence has caused fear among residents and resulted in the displacement of several people from affected communities.

As part of the intensified security response, the military has also launched a new operation known as Operation Hard Nut. The operation is focused on dismantling armed groups and restoring stability in communities affected by violence across Mangu and adjoining areas.

Dangana assured residents that troops would maintain a sustained presence in the area and work to clear hostile elements while creating conditions for residents to return to normal life.

The military's increased presence is also expected to improve coordination between troops, other security agencies, community leaders and local stakeholders.

The relocation comes amid growing calls for stronger action to prevent further attacks in Plateau State, where recurring violence has claimed numerous lives and displaced communities.

Security agencies have continued to face pressure to improve their response to attacks and prevent further loss of lives, particularly in areas identified as vulnerable to armed attacks.

With the headquarters now operating from Mangu, military authorities are expected to intensify patrols, intelligence gathering and clearance operations across affected communities.

The success of the new strategy will depend largely on the military's ability to maintain a sustained presence, identify those responsible for attacks and prevent further violence.

For residents of Mangu and surrounding communities, the relocation is expected to bring security operations closer to the areas most affected by the recent violence.
