Ndume Urges Military to Intensify Efforts to Rescue Abducted Borno Schoolchildren

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has urged the Nigerian military to intensify efforts to rescue schoolchildren and other residents abducted from communities in Southern Borno.

Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, made the appeal during a visit to the Theatre Command, North-East Operation HADIN KAI, in Maiduguri.

The senator specifically called for renewed efforts to rescue children abducted from Mussa and Lassa, passengers kidnapped along the Buratai axis and other victims still being held in captivity from Ngoshe.

Ndume Raises Concern Over Prolonged Captivity

Ndume said some of the victims had spent more than 100 days away from their families, creating severe anxiety among relatives and communities.

While commending the military for its efforts against insurgency in the region, he appealed to the authorities to do more to secure the release of those still in captivity.

He said his continued advocacy should not be interpreted as a criticism of the military but as part of his responsibility to speak for constituents whose relatives remain missing.

Ndume also praised the security agencies for the improvement in the security situation across Borno compared with previous years, attributing the progress to the sacrifices of soldiers and improved coordination among security agencies.

Army Plans Recruitment of Southern Borno Youths

The appeal came as the Nigerian Army disclosed plans to recruit about 1,000 youths from Southern Borno, particularly from Gwoza Local Government Area, into the military.

The recruitment is expected to strengthen security operations and increase military presence across Southern Borno and neighbouring parts of Adamawa State.

The development comes amid continuing concerns over school abductions in Borno. The Mussa and Lassa incidents have left dozens of children in captivity, with families and communities continuing to call for their safe return.

Ndume's appeal has renewed attention on the need for sustained military operations aimed at locating the victims and bringing them home safely.
