NiDCOM Celebrates London Bus Aunty as UK Bus Stop Bears Her Name

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has celebrated Nigerian-born nurse and social media personality Bemi Orojuogun, popularly known as “London Bus Aunty,” after a London bus stop was named in her honour.

NiDCOM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the recognition as a remarkable achievement and a source of pride for Nigeria and Nigerians in the diaspora.

Orojuogun became widely known through her engaging social media videos featuring London's iconic red buses. Her unique content, which often showcases everyday life around the city's transport network, has attracted a large following and made her a recognisable Nigerian personality in the United Kingdom.

NiDCOM Praises Her Positive Representation

Dabiri-Erewa said Orojuogun's journey demonstrates how authenticity, passion and positive representation of one's heritage can create an impact beyond Nigeria's shores.

She commended the content creator for bringing joy to audiences through her videos and for positively projecting the image of Nigerians in the United Kingdom.

The NiDCOM chairman also praised Transport for London (TfL) for recognising Orojuogun's contribution and celebrating her strong connection with the city's transport community.

Bus Aunty Reacts to the Honour

Orojuogun announced the recognition on social media, expressing excitement after learning that a London bus stop had been named after her.

She thanked TfL and its workers for the honour and praised the organisation for the work it does to keep London's transport system running.

Orojuogun has lived in the United Kingdom for more than three decades and rose to prominence through videos of herself posing alongside London's famous red buses. Her online popularity has since led to collaborations with major brands and public figures.
