The family of late veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has announced the remaining programmes to mark his burial and celebrate his life and contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, and was buried the following day in Ilaro, Ogun State, in accordance with Islamic rites. His death has continued to generate tributes from colleagues, fans and other members of the entertainment industry.
In a statement shared by veteran actor Jide Kosoko on behalf of the family, the relatives expressed appreciation to everyone who attended Ogogo’s burial and supported them during the difficult period.
The family said the large turnout at the burial demonstrated the love and respect that fans, friends, colleagues and associates had for the late actor during his lifetime.
The first of the remaining programmes is an eighth-day Fidau prayer scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2026, in Ilaro, Ogun State.
The family appealed to friends, colleagues, fans and well-wishers to attend the prayer in large numbers and join them in praying for the peaceful repose of the late actor and asking Almighty Allah to grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
The family also announced a special Artists’ Day to honour Ogogo 40 days after his burial.
The event will take place at the Pavilion Hall in Ilaro and will bring together actors, musicians, comedians, singers and other entertainers for a day of performances and tributes celebrating Ogogo’s life and legacy.
According to the family, the Artists’ Day is a traditional way for members of the entertainment industry to honour one of their own and recognise the contributions he made throughout his career. The programme will be coordinated by the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).
Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in the Yoruba film industry, with a career that spanned several decades. His work as an actor helped establish him as a recognisable face in Nigerian indigenous-language cinema.
His death has triggered widespread mourning within Nollywood, particularly among Yoruba-speaking actors and filmmakers who worked alongside him throughout his career.
Several entertainers and industry associations have continued to pay tribute to the late actor, highlighting his contributions to the growth of Yoruba cinema and his influence on younger generations of performers.
The burial in Ilaro attracted numerous colleagues and admirers, with prominent figures from the Nigerian entertainment industry travelling to Ogun State to pay their final respects.
The family has now urged supporters to continue standing with them as they complete the remaining burial rites.
The upcoming Artists’ Day is expected to provide another major gathering of members of the entertainment industry, this time focusing on performances and celebrations of Ogogo’s career rather than the solemnity of the burial.
For his colleagues, the event will provide an opportunity to remember the actor through the art form to which he dedicated much of his life.
As preparations continue for the Fidau prayer and Artists’ Day, Ogogo’s family has continued to appreciate the support received from Nigerians and members of the entertainment community following his death.
