Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has extended an olive branch to his political opponents following his victory in the August 15 governorship election, calling for peace and unity across the state.
Adeleke, who secured re-election, said there was no victor or vanquished after the election and promised to govern for all residents of Osun State.
The governor also thanked supporters of his administration and said the outcome of the election had strengthened his faith in democracy.
Adeleke Calls for Unity
Speaking after his victory, Adeleke appealed to his fellow contestants and their supporters to put the election behind them and work toward the development of the state.
He said his administration's vision remains focused on transforming Osun from a civil-service-dependent state into an industrial and investment destination.
The governor's appeal comes as political parties and their supporters begin to assess the outcome of the election.
APC Considers Legal Options
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is considering its next move after losing the governorship election.
The party said it was studying the results from the 332 wards across the state before deciding whether to challenge the outcome through the legal process available under the Electoral Act.
The APC's position means the election could potentially face a legal challenge if the party eventually decides to approach the election tribunal.
ADC Raises Concern Over Result Uploading
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) congratulated Adeleke on his victory but raised concerns over an interruption in the uploading of polling-unit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal during the election.
The party called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to explain what caused the interruption, which it said lasted for several hours.
Despite the concerns raised by some political actors, attention is now turning to the next phase of governance in Osun State.
Adeleke Begins Second-Term Agenda
With the election concluded, Adeleke is expected to focus on delivering on his campaign promises and consolidating his administration's programmes.
His call for unity could also help ease political tensions following a closely watched election and create room for cooperation among stakeholders in the state.
The APC's eventual decision on whether to pursue a legal challenge will also be closely monitored in the coming days.
