The Sokoto State Police Command has neutralised two suspected bandits and arrested 11 other suspects in separate operations targeting banditry, motorcycle theft and other criminal activities across the state.
The operations formed part of ongoing security efforts by the police to disrupt criminal networks and prevent attacks on communities in different parts of Sokoto State.
According to the police, one of the major operations took place after security personnel received information about an attempted bandit attack on Dankadu Village in Illela Local Government Area.
The attackers reportedly came under pressure from the police and fled into the surrounding forest. Security operatives subsequently launched clearance operations in the area, during which two suspected bandits were neutralised.
The operation also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines and 54 rounds of live ammunition. Police authorities said no security personnel or members of the community were injured during the operation.
In another operation, police arrested suspects allegedly linked to a motorcycle theft syndicate operating in the state.
The arrests followed complaints from community leaders in areas including Mana Babba, Mabera, Anguwar Rogo and Tamaje over increasing cases of motorcycle theft and other criminal activities.
Among those arrested were Hamza Abubakar of Mabera and Yasir Muhammed of Mana. Police said the suspects allegedly confessed to working with other members of the syndicate who are still at large.
Five stolen motorcycles and a fabricated pistol were also recovered during the operation.
The police command said investigations were ongoing to identify other members of the suspected criminal networks and determine their involvement in the various offences.
The latest operations come amid continued security challenges in parts of Sokoto State, where communities have faced threats from bandits and other criminal groups.
Security agencies have continued to intensify patrols, intelligence gathering and clearance operations in areas considered vulnerable to attacks.
The police said the operations would continue as part of efforts to protect residents, disrupt criminal activities and improve security across the state.
Authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with useful information that could help prevent attacks and apprehend suspected criminals.
