Seven people have been killed and two others injured in a multiple-vehicle crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The fatal accident occurred at about 12:03 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, around Kara, Ibafo, along the Ibafo-Lagos corridor.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, stating that three vehicles were involved in the crash: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC truck, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter.
According to the FRSC, nine people, all male, were involved in the crash. Seven of them died, while the remaining two sustained injuries and were taken to a medical facility for treatment.
The FRSC said its Ibafo Outpost received information about the crash in the early hours of Monday and arrived at the scene shortly afterwards to commence rescue and recovery operations.
Preliminary findings identified speed violation as the probable cause of the crash, although the agency stressed that investigations were still ongoing.
The bodies of the deceased were evacuated from the scene by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the damaged vehicles were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibafo for further necessary action.
The FRSC urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to avoid excessive speeding, maintain safe following distances and remain alert while driving. The agency also advised motorists to exercise extra caution when travelling at night because poor visibility and fatigue can increase the risk of serious crashes.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
