Tinubu Chairs First FEC Meeting Since June at Presidential Villa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting, which began at about 2:30 p.m., marked Tinubu’s first FEC meeting since June 29, 2026. He arrived at the Council Chamber and formally opened the session with the national anthem.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; cabinet ministers, presidential aides and heads of government agencies.

The council also observed a minute of silence in honour of former Minister of Finance, Abubakar Alhaji, who died on July 30, 2026.

Members of the council also paid tribute to Professor Turner Isoun, a former Minister of Science and Technology under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who died on July 15, 2026.

The meeting comes as the Federal Government continues to implement its policies and programmes across different sectors of the economy and governance.

At the previous FEC meeting in June, President Tinubu swore in two new Federal Commissioners representing Bauchi and Kaduna states on the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission before the council commenced its deliberations.

Wednesday’s meeting is expected to consider several matters relating to the administration, with details of decisions and resolutions expected to be made public after the council concludes its deliberations.

The FEC, chaired by the President, brings together the Vice President, ministers and other senior government officials to deliberate on major policy issues and matters requiring executive approval.

The meeting is taking place on the same day Nigeria’s political parties officially begin their campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, adding further political significance to the day’s activities.

Further details of the resolutions reached by the council are expected to emerge following the meeting.
