Wike Criticises Kingibe Over Flood Response, Tells Her to Face Constituents

 

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised Senator Ireti Kingibe over her comments concerning the recent flooding in Abuja.

Wike accused the FCT senator of relying on television appearances to criticise the administration instead of addressing issues through the National Assembly and engaging directly with her constituents.

The minister said he was appointed to serve all residents of the Federal Capital Territory and not to work exclusively with any particular political figure.

Wike also accused Kingibe of using the flood situation to gain public attention, arguing that legislators should raise issues affecting their constituents through appropriate parliamentary channels.

He challenged the senator to account for her achievements in the National Assembly and identify the bills she had sponsored for the benefit of Abuja residents.

According to Wike, effective representation requires lawmakers to engage with their constituents and push their concerns through legislation rather than relying mainly on media appearances.

The minister further dismissed Kingibe's criticisms of the FCT Administration's handling of the flooding, saying residents were already familiar with her performance.

Wike's comments come amid renewed debate over the causes of flooding in Abuja and the responsibility of government authorities to address drainage and other infrastructure challenges.

The disagreement has added to growing political tensions between the FCT minister and the senator as both sides continue to express different views on governance and the response to flooding in the nation's capital.
