The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God shared a message on Tuesday to commemorate the milestone, expressing gratitude to God for sustaining their union through different seasons of life. He described their 59-year journey as one that has included moments of joy, challenges, growth, answered prayers and many reasons to remain thankful.
Adeboye said the experience of marriage had taught him that a lasting relationship goes beyond celebrating its happiest moments. He highlighted the importance of choosing one another continually, allowing room for personal growth, exercising patience, forgiving each other, praying together and maintaining trust in God through difficult periods.
He also placed particular emphasis on the role of faith in their marriage, saying God had remained at the centre of their home throughout their journey. For the couple, the anniversary was therefore presented not simply as a celebration of longevity but as an opportunity to acknowledge the values they believe have sustained their relationship.
Adeboye expressed appreciation to people who have supported, loved and prayed for him, his wife and their family over the years. He said they were grateful for the journey they had travelled together and hopeful about the years ahead.
The anniversary marks another significant milestone for the couple, who have remained prominent figures within Nigeria's Christian community for decades. Adeboye's public ministry and leadership of the RCCG have made the couple widely known beyond the church, while Folu Adeboye has also maintained a prominent role within the church's activities.
The couple's 59th anniversary follows their 58th wedding anniversary celebration in September 2025. Earlier this year, Adeboye also publicly celebrated Folu's 78th birthday, describing her as his wife, friend and a source of support throughout their life together.
Their latest anniversary message focused less on the length of the marriage itself and more on gratitude for the experiences that have shaped it. Adeboye acknowledged both the difficult and rewarding periods of their life together, presenting patience, forgiveness, prayer and commitment as important elements of their enduring relationship.
As they mark 59 years of marriage, Adeboye and Folu have continued to receive messages of congratulations from members of the RCCG and other Christian communities. Their milestone has also renewed public interest in the couple's long marriage and the role their relationship has played alongside Adeboye's decades-long religious ministry.
For the Adeboyes, the anniversary is ultimately a celebration of a shared journey that began in 1967 and has continued through major personal, family and religious milestones. Their message for the occasion remained centred on gratitude, with the couple looking ahead to what they described as the years still ahead of them.
