Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has joined an elite group of Premier League managers after taking charge of his 250th league match for the club in Monday night’s 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.
Arteta became only the 10th manager in Premier League history to oversee 250 matches at a single club. He marked the milestone with another victory as Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the game at Villa Park to give Arsenal a winning start to the new season.
The victory was Arteta’s 151st in 250 Premier League matches as Arsenal manager, alongside 48 draws and 51 defeats. His record gives him a 60.4 per cent win rate, placing him fourth among managers who have reached the 250-match mark at a single Premier League club.
Only Pep Guardiola, Sir Alex Ferguson and Jurgen Klopp have higher win percentages among the managers in the 250-game group. Guardiola leads with 70.8 per cent, followed by Ferguson on 65.2 per cent and Klopp on 62.6 per cent.
Arteta's achievement is particularly notable because he took over at Arsenal in December 2019 and initially faced significant pressure during the early stages of his tenure. His long-term rebuilding project eventually delivered Arsenal's first Premier League title in 22 years during the 2025/26 season.
The Spaniard's 250th league appearance also made him the second person to both play and manage at least 250 Premier League matches. He played 284 games in the competition during his career before moving into management.
Arsenal celebrated the milestone with a disciplined performance against Aston Villa. The champions controlled much of the match and restricted the hosts to very few opportunities, with Villa failing to register a shot on target.
Saka eventually settled the contest in the 59th minute, finishing from close range after Ricardo Calafiori's low cross had created the opening. The result gave Arsenal six points from their opening two league matches and kept them among the early leaders.
Arteta's latest achievement further underlines his transformation of Arsenal into one of the Premier League's most consistent sides. His current record places him alongside some of the competition's most successful managers and gives him an opportunity to climb even higher on the all-time list as his Arsenal tenure continues.
