Cross River Police Arrest 16-Year-Old Over Death of 20-Year-Old


 The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the death of a 20-year-old man, Uwem Daniel Akpan, following an alleged stabbing incident in Awi community, Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2026, after a misunderstanding between the two individuals at Peters Street in the community.

According to the police, Akpan was rushed to the Naval Reference Hospital in Calabar after sustaining injuries from the alleged stabbing. He was later confirmed dead at the hospital.

The victim's remains were subsequently recovered by his family.

The police said the 16-year-old suspect was arrested and is currently in custody while investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the suspect's alleged involvement.

The case is being processed for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar for further investigation and appropriate legal action.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands while the investigation continues.

He assured the public that further information would be provided as investigators establish more facts about the incident.

The arrest remains an allegation at this stage, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
