The Delta State Police Command has rescued a woman who was abducted by armed men at the entrance of her residence in the Amukpe area of Sapele Local Government Area, following an overnight search operation supported by local vigilantes.
The command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, September 4, 2026, saying the woman was abducted on Wednesday evening while attempting to drive into her compound along Eko-Amukpe Road. (punchng.com)
According to Edafe, the Sapele Police Division received a distress report at about 7:45 p.m. after the armed men ambushed the woman at the entrance of her residence. The attackers reportedly fired several shots into the air before taking her into a nearby bush. (independent.ng)
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to the area. The operatives recovered spent ammunition believed to be from an AK-47 rifle at the scene before beginning a search of the surrounding bushes with the assistance of local vigilantes.
The search continued throughout the night and into Thursday morning, with the sustained security presence reportedly putting pressure on the abductors. Edafe said the suspects eventually abandoned the victim and fled from the area.
The woman was subsequently located and rescued unharmed before being reunited with her family, according to the police. The command said efforts had been intensified to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects. (punchng.com)
