Tinubu Mourns Death of Presidential Media Aide Peter Onwubuariri

President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of Peter Onwubuariri, an Assistant Director of Media at the Presidential Villa and veteran journalist who served under three successive Nigerian administrations.

Onwubuariri died in Kano on Monday at the age of 48 after a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed by his wife, Catherine Ezinna Onwubuariri.

In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the death as a painful loss to the Presidency, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the media community and the country.

The President praised Onwubuariri for his professionalism, calm disposition and commitment to public service, noting that his career at the Presidential Villa spanned the administrations of Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and Tinubu.

Before joining the Villa, Onwubuariri worked with NAN, where he rose through the ranks to become an Assistant Editor-in-Chief and also served as the agency’s North American correspondent. His journalism covered areas including foreign affairs, telecommunications, politics and finance.

Tinubu extended his condolences to Onwubuariri’s wife, three children, extended family, colleagues and friends, while praying for strength for the bereaved family and eternal rest for the deceased.

The remains of the late journalist were released by Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on Tuesday and are expected to be transported to Owerri, Imo State, for burial.

Onwubuariri’s death marks the loss of a journalist whose career bridged professional news reporting and government communication, with more than a decade of service connected to the Presidential Villa.
