Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will now pay ₦4,000 only once to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) O’Level results, following a new arrangement announced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The two examination and admission bodies announced the new arrangement in a joint statement following consultations over the recently introduced WASSCE O’Level Result Verification Service.
Under the new system, candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results once through the JAMB platform. The verification outcome will then be made available to the tertiary institution where the candidate is seeking admission.
JAMB and WAEC stressed that the ₦4,000 payment is a one-off charge and should be made through the specified JAMB Verification Service platform, rather than directly to individual tertiary institutions.
The institutions have also been directed to use the verified results supplied by JAMB for admission screening, processing and other approved administrative purposes. Candidates who have successfully completed the verification will therefore not be required to pay another verification fee to their chosen institutions.
The new arrangement is expected to provide relief for admission seekers who may apply to several tertiary institutions. Previously, candidates could face additional verification requirements and payments from individual institutions, increasing the financial and logistical burden of the admission process.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the verification outcome with relevant tertiary institutions, meaning candidates will not have to repeatedly verify the same WASSCE result for different admission processes after completing the approved verification through JAMB.
The bodies also said candidates can initiate the verification process from home or any location with internet access. The arrangement is part of efforts to reduce unnecessary visits to tertiary institutions and JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres while making the admission process more convenient.
JAMB had earlier introduced a system allowing candidates to upload and verify their O’Level results remotely. The system enables direct verification between JAMB and examination bodies and is intended to strengthen the integrity of academic records while reducing the possibility of candidates presenting altered or fraudulent results.
JAMB and WAEC urged candidates seeking admission through the JAMB-regulated process to take advantage of the new verification arrangement and complete the exercise through the approved platform.
They also warned candidates against making additional payments to institutions for verification of the same WASSCE result after it has already been successfully verified through JAMB.
The clarification comes as Nigerian students continue preparations for the 2026/2027 tertiary admission exercise, with O’Level results remaining an important requirement for admission screening and processing.
The new policy effectively means that eligible candidates will make one ₦4,000 payment for WASSCE result verification through JAMB, after which the verified result can be used by the relevant institution for admission-related purposes.
