The Ogun State Police Command has scheduled a two-day security stakeholders’ workshop as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, with about 520 participants expected to attend.
The training, scheduled for September 22 and 23, 2026, will bring together representatives of security agencies, electoral bodies, political parties, the media and community organisations across the state.
The workshop is themed “Elections, Community Mobilisation, the Law and the Media” and is designed to strengthen cooperation and coordination among stakeholders before, during and after the elections.
Participants are expected to include Divisional Police Officers, area and zonal commanders, representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Department of State Services, Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, Vigilante Corps and the Nigeria Customs Service.
Representatives of major political parties, members of the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and selected political editors are also expected to participate.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun is scheduled to declare the workshop open and deliver the keynote address, while Professor Fassy Adetokunboh Yusuf is expected to present the lead paper.
According to the workshop's Executive Consultant, Dr Bolu John Folayan, the training will focus on inter-agency cooperation, community engagement, professional conduct and accountability among stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
He said a lack of understanding of the respective responsibilities assigned to security agencies, political actors, the media and other stakeholders could create conflicts, disrupt public order and affect the credibility of elections.
The organisers also said the training would address contemporary issues including election-related social media management and fundraising.
Participants are expected to sign a “Responsive and Responsible Professionalism Charter” at the end of the workshop as part of efforts to promote responsible conduct throughout the electoral process.
The planned Ogun workshop comes shortly after the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command, which oversees Lagos and Ogun, held a separate election-security training in Lagos focused on professionalism, neutrality and collaboration among security agencies.
The police have continued to emphasise the importance of early preparation, inter-agency cooperation and respect for citizens’ rights as Nigeria moves towards the 2027 general elections.
