Polaris Bank Mourns Manager Killed in FUTO Attack as Two Students Remain Abducted

 Polaris Bank is mourning the death of one of its branch managers who was fatally shot during a security incident at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, in Imo State.

The banker, identified as Mr Ossy, was reportedly attacked on Sunday, September 6, while taking his children to the university. According to the bank, his children managed to escape during the attack, but he was killed. The attackers were described as suspected kidnappers.

The incident has also raised concern within the FUTO community after the university confirmed that two female students were reportedly abducted during the attack. The institution said the circumstances surrounding both the killing and the abductions were under investigation by security agencies.

In a statement, Polaris Bank expressed sadness over the death of its branch manager and extended condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones. The bank also urged the public to allow law enforcement agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following the attack, FUTO management met with the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, over security concerns around the university and neighbouring communities. The police assured the institution that security would be intensified around the campus and surrounding areas.

No arrest had been announced in connection with the killing and abductions at the time of reporting. The university has urged students and other members of its community to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.

The incident has added to growing concerns about security around educational institutions, where students, staff, visitors and their families can become vulnerable to violent attacks. The immediate priority remains the safe recovery of the abducted students and the investigation of the circumstances surrounding the banker’s death.
