President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal on his 61st birthday, praising his administration’s efforts in infrastructure, education, healthcare and industrial development.
In a birthday message issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Lawal as a “Renaissance governor” who has brought positive changes to Zamfara State.
Tinubu particularly highlighted the governor’s focus on infrastructure development and urban renewal, alongside efforts aimed at strengthening the state’s productive capacity through industrialisation.
The President also drew attention to areas of governance that directly affect the wellbeing and future prospects of residents, especially education and healthcare.
According to Tinubu, Lawal’s administration has rehabilitated more than 800 schools and recruited over 2,000 teachers as part of measures to improve education across Zamfara. He also commended the government for upgrading hospitals and providing medical supplies in different parts of the state.
For the President, the attention given to human capital development is an important part of sustainable governance. He said Lawal’s approach, which combines physical development with investments in people, represents a broad-based strategy for achieving more balanced growth in the state.
Tinubu’s message places particular emphasis on the connection between infrastructure and human development. While roads, urban renewal projects and industrial initiatives can improve the physical and economic environment, investments in schools, teachers, hospitals and healthcare services directly affect the quality of life of residents.
The President therefore commended Lawal’s multi-sectoral approach, describing his policies and programmes as contributing to positive changes in Zamfara State.
Lawal, who was born on September 2, 1965, assumed office as Zamfara governor on May 29, 2023. His administration has since made security, education, healthcare and economic development central parts of its governance agenda, while insecurity remains one of the major challenges facing the state.
The governor’s 61st birthday has also attracted messages from other political figures. Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the Northwest Governors’ Forum, Dikko Umaru Radda, described Lawal as a dependable partner in efforts to improve security and development across the region. Radda also praised investments in education and the governor’s role in regional efforts to address insecurity.
Lawal’s own spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, also used the occasion to highlight what he described as changes in the state since the governor assumed office, including efforts to attract development partners and improve government revenue. Those claims are presented as the administration’s account of its record.
For Tinubu, however, the birthday celebration was an opportunity to recognise the governor’s contribution to Zamfara and wish him well in the years ahead.
The President joined Lawal’s family, friends and the people of Zamfara State in celebrating the milestone, wishing the governor good health, renewed strength and continued success as he serves the state and the nation.
At 61, the recognition from the Presidency and other political leaders comes as Lawal continues to oversee a state facing significant security and development pressures. The emphasis placed in Tinubu’s message on education, healthcare, infrastructure and human capital reflects the broad areas in which the governor’s administration is seeking to leave its mark.
