Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has funded the aviation training of a Kogi State student, Enejoh Faith, with about ₦30 million, helping her complete a programme she had struggled to finance.
Faith and her family visited Bello on Monday to express their appreciation and update him on her progress after completing her aviation training. According to a statement by Bello’s spokesperson, Onogwu Muhammed, the former governor first met Faith and her father on July 17, 2025, when they visited his residence to seek financial assistance.
Faith had secured admission for aviation training but her family was unable to raise the money required to continue the programme. Her father reportedly presented her admission documents and explained the family's financial difficulties to Bello.
Bello subsequently agreed to take responsibility for the cost of her training. The programme was said to cost about ₦30 million, with Bello reportedly providing additional funds in anticipation of other expenses Faith might encounter during her studies.
Faith's journey had previously attracted attention after her family appealed for financial assistance to enable her pursue a Standard Pilot course at the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology in Zaria. In May 2025, the Kogi NGOs Network said the family needed ₦23.2 million to cover her course fees and insurance levy.
The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology had also listed Enejoh Faith Unekwuojo among candidates shortlisted for its Standard Pilot course.
During the family's latest visit to Bello, Faith's father said his daughter recorded an 89 per cent score in her Public Pilot Licence examination and also performed well in her computer-based test.
He said Faith had nurtured the ambition of becoming a pilot since her secondary school years and had now completed her training as she prepares for the next stage of her aviation career.
Faith's father expressed appreciation to Bello, saying the former governor's intervention came at a critical point when the family was struggling to meet the cost of her education.
According to Bello's spokesperson, the support was part of the former governor's private scholarship initiatives. He said at least four people had received assistance to train as pilots, while other beneficiaries had received support for university education in Nigeria and abroad.
The spokesperson added that Faith's family requested that the story be made public to highlight the intervention that enabled her to complete her aviation education. He said their visit was primarily to thank Bello and share the outcome of his support.
For Faith, the assistance has helped turn a long-standing ambition into a professional pathway, bringing her closer to a career in aviation.
