EKSU secures NUC approval for six new degree programmes from 2027

Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence six new academic programmes, expanding its course offerings ahead of the 2027/2028 academic session.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated October 22, 2026, signed by the NUC’s Acting Director of Academic Planning, Dr Ayuba Mohammed, on behalf of the commission’s Executive Secretary.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 30, the university listed the newly approved programmes as Bachelor of Arts in Christian Theology, Bachelor of Science in Transport Management, Security and Investment Management, Information and Communication Technology, Industrial Mathematics and Criminology.

According to the university, the approval followed a resource verification exercise during which expert panels assessed the human and material resources available for the programmes to ensure compliance with national academic standards.

EKSU said prospective students would be able to apply for admission into the new programmes from the 2027/2028 academic session. The university noted that the approval covers full-time study only and does not authorise part-time delivery. It also said the programmes must retain the exact titles approved by the NUC.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, welcomed the approval, describing it as an important step towards the university’s goal of strengthening academic quality and innovation.

Ayodele also acknowledged the support of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who serves as the university’s visitor, saying the development reflected efforts to improve the institution’s academic standards and wider relevance.

The newly approved courses cover areas including religious studies, transport, security, technology, mathematics and criminology. Their introduction will provide prospective students with additional options when applying to the university, subject to the institution’s admission requirements.

The approval comes as Nigerian universities continue to expand their academic offerings in response to changing educational, economic and workforce needs. EKSU’s next step will be to prepare for the admission of eligible candidates when applications open for the 2027/2028 academic session.
