Harry Kane Says Wife Is Anxious to Know Ballon d’Or Winner Before Ceremony

England captain Harry Kane has revealed that his wife and family are eager to know whether he has won the 2026 Ballon d’Or, admitting that the uncertainty surrounding the prestigious football award has created tension at home.

The Bayern Munich striker made the remarks ahead of Monday’s award ceremony in London, where the winner of one of football’s most prestigious individual honours will be announced.

Kane said he would also prefer to know the result in advance rather than wait through the ceremony, but acknowledged that keeping the winner secret helps maintain public interest and encourages leading players to attend the event.

“I think my wife would prefer to know and my family … it’s very stressful for everyone,” Kane said, explaining how the wait has affected those closest to him.

The 33-year-old added that he understood the organisers’ decision to keep the result confidential until the ceremony. He noted that the suspense encourages prominent footballers to attend and gives viewers a reason to watch until the winner is revealed.

Despite the excitement surrounding the award, Kane said he was trying not to think too much about the outcome. He acknowledged that rumours and speculation surrounding the competition made it difficult to avoid thinking about the result.

Kane enters the contest after an outstanding season with Bayern Munich. He scored 61 goals for the German club last season and added 12 goals for England, strengthening his case for recognition among the world's leading footballers.

His recent performances have also kept him in the spotlight. During Bayern Munich’s 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal on Wednesday, Kane scored from the penalty spot and produced an impressive pass that set up Alphonso Davies for Bayern’s equaliser.

The England captain has enjoyed a productive period since joining Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023. His goal-scoring consistency has helped establish him as one of the leading forwards in European football.

Kane faces competition from several prominent players, including Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé. The final decision rests with the award's voting panel, and the outcome will not be confirmed until the ceremony.

Winning the Ballon d’Or would represent a major personal milestone for Kane, who has enjoyed considerable individual success but has yet to receive the award. He has acknowledged that winning it would be a special achievement in his career.

For now, Kane must wait alongside his family as the football world prepares for the announcement. Although he would welcome an early answer, he accepts that the uncertainty is part of the occasion.

The result is expected to be revealed at the London ceremony on Monday, October 26, 2026.
