Football’s biggest stars are gathering in London for the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony, with Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal and Michael Olise among the players attracting attention ahead of the announcement of this year’s winners.
The ceremony, scheduled for Monday, October 26, marks the 70th edition of the prestigious individual football awards and the first time the event has been held in London. The London Palladium will host the occasion, which recognises outstanding performances across men’s and women’s football, as well as achievements by young players, goalkeepers, coaches and clubs.
Kane has emerged as a leading contender for the men’s award following an exceptional season with Bayern Munich and England. The England captain’s goal-scoring record and contribution to Bayern’s domestic success have strengthened his case for the honour. A victory would make him the first Englishman to win the men’s Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001.
However, Kane faces competition from Mbappé, the Real Madrid forward who has continued to demonstrate his scoring ability, and Yamal, Barcelona’s young attacking star who has also strengthened his reputation through his performances for club and country.
Olise, Kane’s Bayern Munich teammate, is another name in the conversation after an impressive campaign. His creativity, assists and attacking contributions have helped establish him among the leading players in European football.
The final outcome will be determined through voting by an international jury of football journalists. Under the award’s voting system, jurors rank players according to their performances, individual contribution, team achievements, sporting conduct and fair play.
Although Kane is widely viewed as a strong favourite, the award will not be decided by public speculation or bookmakers’ predictions. The official result will be announced at the ceremony.
The event will also present awards across several other categories, including the women’s Ballon d’Or, young talent awards, goalkeeper honours and coaching prizes.
With several leading players presenting strong cases for recognition, football supporters will be watching closely as London hosts one of the sport’s most anticipated award ceremonies.
