Kano’s New Science and Technology University Gets Accreditation for 20 Programmes

The Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, Kano State, has secured accreditation for 20 academic programmes, including medical courses, ahead of the commencement of its first academic session.

The achievement was announced by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Governing Council, Grace Laoye-Tomori, during a visit to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, at the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday.

Laoye-Tomori described the accreditation as a major milestone that places the institution in a strong position to begin academic activities. She commended Barau for his role in the establishment of the institution and its subsequent transformation from a federal polytechnic into a university.

She recalled that Barau sponsored the bill for the establishment of Federal Polytechnic Kabo in 2016 and later facilitated its conversion into a university in 2025.

According to her, the 20 accredited programmes include medical courses, although the specific names of all the programmes were not disclosed in the announcement.

In his response, Barau congratulated the university’s governing council, management and staff, urging them to sustain the achievement by maintaining high academic standards.

He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for signing the legislation that enabled the institution’s conversion into a university.

Barau reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the institution, noting that access to quality education and relevant skills was important for preparing young Nigerians to contribute to national development.

The accreditation marks an important step for the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, as it prepares to welcome students for its maiden academic session. The institution’s ability to maintain quality teaching, adequate facilities and strong academic standards will be crucial as it begins operations.
