President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has prayed for lasting peace, national unity and an end to insecurity in Nigeria during his performance of Umrah, the lesser Islamic pilgrimage, in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Tinubu performed the religious rites early on Friday, October 30, 2026, and said the spiritual exercise was significant to him, the country and its people. He expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and sought divine guidance and protection for Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists after completing the pilgrimage, the President said he had prayed for Nigerians to live in peace, harmony and happiness. He also expressed hope that the country would continue to make progress towards economic prosperity, social development and a more secure future.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu prayed for national stability and asked Allah to guide the country's leaders with wisdom, strengthen unity among Nigerians and grant lasting relief from insecurity and other challenges.
The visit followed the President's departure from Abuja on Thursday for the Saudi Arabian pilgrimage. Before leaving Nigeria, he was scheduled to commission equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force to support its operations.
Tinubu's prayers come as insecurity remains a major concern across the country, with Nigerians continuing to demand stronger action to protect lives and property. The President reaffirmed his administration's commitment to building a peaceful and united country where citizens, regardless of their faith or background, can live in safety and dignity.
While the pilgrimage provided an opportunity for spiritual reflection, the challenge of improving security remains an important responsibility for the government as it pursues peace, stability and development across Nigeria.
