Eno Hails New Airbus as Ibom Air Expands Fleet and Aviation Ambitions

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has described the acquisition of a new Airbus aircraft by Ibom Air as evidence of his administration’s consistent investment in the state-owned airline and the wider aviation sector.

Eno made the remarks after arriving at Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo on Thursday, following the pre-delivery inspection of the aircraft in Canada.

The governor said the latest acquisition represents the third Airbus aircraft secured since his administration assumed office in 2023. He added that the government has also fully paid for two other aircraft, bringing the total number of aircraft acquired or paid for during the period to five.

According to Eno, the continued investment demonstrates the state government's determination to expand Ibom Air and establish a stronger aviation ecosystem in Akwa Ibom.

The new aircraft is an Airbus A220-300, which is expected to arrive at Victor Attah International Airport on August 30, 2026. Its arrival will increase Ibom Air's fleet to 10 aircraft and provide additional capacity for the airline's growing network.

Aviation Village Nears Completion

Eno also highlighted progress on the state's Aviation Village, particularly the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility.

The governor said the facility is approaching completion and expressed optimism that its eventual operation would create jobs, generate foreign exchange and contribute significantly to the state's economy.

He said the government's aviation investments should ultimately translate into tangible economic benefits and improved living standards for residents.

The latest Airbus acquisition is part of Ibom Air's broader fleet expansion strategy. The airline's Airbus A220 fleet is expected to reach three, while its first two A220 aircraft are undergoing comprehensive checks and are expected to return to service by the end of September.

The additional aircraft is expected to improve operational flexibility, increase passenger capacity and support Ibom Air's expansion into more regional markets.
