Czech Embassy Clarifies 2027 Scholarship Eligibility for Nigerian Students

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Abuja has debunked information circulating online claiming that Nigerian students are eligible to apply for the Czech Government Scholarship programme for the 2027/2028 academic year.

In a statement issued on Monday, August 31, the embassy said a website currently circulating information about the scholarship programme had incorrectly listed Nigeria among the eligible countries and provided instructions for prospective applicants.

The embassy stressed that the information was inaccurate and that Nigeria is not among the countries eligible for the Czech Government Scholarship for the 2027/2028 academic year.

According to the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the scholarship for the 2027/2028 academic year is limited to citizens of 13 countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus (democratic forces), Ethiopia, Gabon, Mauritania, Zambia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Palestine, Guatemala and Honduras. Nigeria is not on the list.

The Czech Government Scholarship supports selected foreign students studying at public higher education institutions in Czechia. Depending on the applicant's country and programme, scholarships are available for selected master's and doctoral programmes conducted in English, as well as certain master's programmes conducted in Czech.

Applications for the 2027/2028 academic year opened on August 21, 2026, and the official deadline is September 30, 2026. However, the current call is only open to citizens of the countries listed by the Czech authorities.

The embassy acknowledged the strong interest among Nigerian students in studying in Czechia but urged prospective applicants to rely only on official Czech government sources when searching for scholarship and study opportunities.

The clarification is particularly important because Nigeria was eligible for Czech Government Scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year, when two development scholarships were announced for Nigerian students.

The embassy therefore advised Nigerians not to rely on unofficial websites claiming that the country remains eligible for the 2027/2028 programme.

Students seeking accurate information about Czech Government Scholarships have been directed to the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Dům zahraniční spolupráce, the Czech agency responsible for international education cooperation.
